Battery technology is the single biggest factor separating today’s electric vehicles from the first generation of EVs a decade ago. Energy density has improved dramatically, meaning more range without a heavier battery pack.
Solid-state batteries, long promised as the next big leap, are finally moving from research labs into early production vehicles. They offer faster charging, better safety margins, and the potential for significantly longer lifespans compared to today’s lithium-ion cells.
Manufacturers are also getting smarter about battery management software, squeezing more usable range out of the same physical cells simply through better thermal control and charge-cycle optimization.
